ARITHMETIC LOGIC UNIT (ALU)

Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU) is a part of the CPU. All arithmetic and logical operations on the data are performed in the ALU.
ALU consists of two parts: Arithmetic Section and Logic Section.

(Arithmetic Section)
Arithmetic section of the ALU performs basic arithmetic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

(Logic Section)
Logic section of the ALU performs logical operations.
A logical operation is one in which data is compared. For example, whether the first number is greater, less than equal to or not equal to than the second number.

(What is computer memory and what are the main type of the memories used COMPUTER MEMORY)

The computer component that is used to store program instructions and data is called memory.

There are three main types of memories in the computer system.
There are:

(1) Permanent Memory or Read Only Memory.
(2) Temporary Memory or Random Access Memory.
(3) Semi-Permanent or Magnetic Memory.
